Olympics art work

This term I made a olympics art work of me.
I started by making a tessellation using meashad up triangle with sides that were up to 3.8cm long.  Then I took a photo of myself and printed a photo of Dan carter.  Then i cut them out and glue them onto the tessellation.
IMG_2340_sRGB.JPGThen i made a border for my art work i ruled the border up to 4cm. The best part was making my tessellation.

S.T.E.M Challenge

Our Materials:
6 x long sticks
1 x  wooden square
2 x pipe cleaners
2 x straws
1 x 1m ruler
11 x plastic cubes
1 x bunch of popsicle sticks
4 x wooden small flat pieces

Challenge #1 - Build a structure with a cube as the base:

Challenge 1 was a bit easy because all we had to do was only make a structure with using only one block to hold the tower up.

Challenge #2 - Build the  tallest structure that you can and your base can be any size:

Challenge #3 -  Build a structure with something that balances off the side of it:

Challenge 3 was frustrating because you had to make a structure

Moment In Time Week 7

Today our teacher asked us to write a ‘Moment In Time’ piece using a picture of a boy in the water.  We planned as a class to make sure we had the 5 W’s and the 6 Senses.

Before we began our writing in small groups we discussed the importance of using descriptive writing, using similes and metaphors where appropriate, using dialogue and have done our best to make sure our punctuation is correct.  Some of us have even used ‘Show Don’t Tell’ in our writing to provide our reader with more of an experience.

Our teacher gave us 10 minutes for each paragraph and then 10 minutes for editing at the end.  We had so much fun working together!

If you have a moment, we would love you to comment on our writing.
Boy Overboard!

As Jack was fishing he caught a fish but it was to powerful for him so the fish pulled him into the sea.  The person that was driving the boat didn’t see Jack so he took of.  SPLASH!  Jack could smell diesel coming from the boat getting further and further.  Jack was panicking because he could see sharks crowding him, he was screaming for help “HELP HELP!

Jack was becoming one with the water.  As he was drowning he saw all kind of different fish looking at him.  He was even more terrified when he saw a whole group of piranhas.  The sharks was coming closer and closer to Jack.  So Jack tried to to swim but he couldn’t swim because he doesn’t like the water, so he passed out. He was thinking that he was going to die.

Out of nowhere a megalodon had rushed to Jack and taken a bite out of his arm.  “AHHHHHHHH”! Shouted Jack.  Jack could see the blood coming out from his arm.  “PLEASE LORD PLEASE HELP ME”! Jack screamed while drowning.  There was a light coming from the sky.  going towards the boy.

Patrick:
What we done well was working as a team and talking as a team

Darnell
What I think I did well was help Kaleb and Patrick make some sentences.

Kaleb:
The thing that I did well was when I was talking to my buddy when we were writing.

polygon

Tessellation
A pattern made of identical shapes.
the shapes must fit together without any gaps, the shapes should not overlap.

REGULAR polygon

To be a regular polygon all the sides and angles must be the same.
IRREGULAR polygon

Then a regular polygon.

Matariki Reflections

File_000.jpeg

Matariki is a time for reflection.  Yesterday with whaea toni  we took the time to reflect on our year and set a new gole.  Here is the goal i set practice my maths.
We made a matariki star.   We used our algebraic thinking. We had
A pattern to follow.
1,2 and down
1 and up
We repeated this until we got the star

MANU TUKUTUKU

IMG_0954 (1).JPGIMG_0933.JPG

Matariki is a maori new year that the maori people celebrate.   Just before June.  They say if the star is bright and it's shining that means it's going to be a good year.  Matariki is the hottest stars.    people tell stories, play knucklebones, have a big feast and go fishing.   People will grow food for the end of the season.   Matariki is also called the 7 Pleiades.  People celebrate it different ways.  You can see it just before sunrise. Matariki is a time to remember loved ones.  It is a time to make new goals.

In the maori days the maori people would celebrate by flying there mānu tukutuku.   In room 10 with my buddys we have been doing manu tuku tuku.   It took 2 days to weave it.  First we had to go collect some toitoi but first we had to do a Karakia because we are asking for toitoi.   Then we got back  to school and started weaving.  First we measured our toitoi.  Ours was  100 cm long.   We used raupo for the for the kite and wool.

At  Thursday night I had to say a speech  In front of the whole community  after that  went to go play around with my friends then done kapahaka.  1 min later I went to weave a manu tukutuku  so i garbd the equipment and went home and started it.   Some of the wool feel apart. But i had managed to finish it.  Mum gave me a hot milo well i was weaving my manu tukutuku with a biskit.   Once i had one my kight mum took a photo of it.
